What does it mean to “work the steps” of 12 step programs?

My older sis only recently began a twelve step program for her alcohol addiction problem. She might seem young, though the girl still by some means fell into that trap of alcoholism. My mother and father stepped in and informed the girl that it was either get assistance or they would pay the price needed for her grad school. So naturally, the girl has decided to acquire help. No one believed that her disorder was actually grave enough for full on rehabilitation, simply a 12 step program would be just fine. And so, that is precisely what the girl is actually proceeding through right now. When i actually found out she was receiving this kind of help, I was in fact very excited. I’ve been told information on twelve step programs and also how very much they help people. And I genuinely do want my sibling to succeed, she has so very much to give this world, I want her healthy. I can’t wait for this lady to conquer alcoholism, go through grad school, and get out there into the world then show everybody what precisely she is actually made of. Unfortunately, we have run into a little bit of a wall.

My father and mother are in correspondence with the particular leader of the twelve step program, and this person explained that her progress is really lower compared to what it should probably be. She has got some type of mental blockage which is not enabling her to be able to proceed ahead and end up being a strong, sober individual. She isn’t drinking right now, and yet the girl isn’t emotionally and mentally progressing. She is still with this mind set pertaining to an alcoholic even though the girl is not actively indulging in the urges. According to this leader of this particular program, this guy claims she is simply hoping that by attending and sitting in at those meetings that she ought to be cured from alcoholism, this won’t happen, obviously.

According to the leader, my sibling has to “work the steps” regarding this particular twelve step program. That she needs to be actively working while these people learn get through each stage pertaining to this program. This is a thing which I don’t absolutely understand. What actually does that necessarily mean to be able to “work the steps” from 12 step programs? I mean, that is really sort of an unusual phrase. Aren’t you just progressing your way through the particular steps and those actions lead to sobriety? I realize that this individual is aware of what this guy is speaking about, and yet i actually don’t. And anyway i need to simply because I need to be able to consider what this individual means so that I recognize what is actually going on then precisely what needs to go on with my own sister. So, what does it mean to “work the steps” for 12 step programs?
