Substances and Drug Rehab

Substances and Drug Rehab

Many substances come from plants and have been used for medicinal purposes for centuries. The chewing of coca leaves to increase endurance by the natives in the Andes highlands has been present since 1500 B.C. Cocaine was use lawfully throughout Europe and then America into the twentieth century to alleviate exhaustion and was a component in the original Coca-Cola drink and more than 50 other widely available drinks and elixir.

In Asian and European countries, the milky juice produced from the poppy plant called opium has been used for hundreds of years to relieve pain . The leaves of a plant called that have been chewed in parts of eastern Africa, the Middle East, and South America for hundreds of years to produce a sense of well-being and relief from fatigue. Now, recent derivatives of that are used to create amphetamines, a category of drugs used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, narcolepsy, and obesity and integrated in over-the-counter cold remedies and appetite suppressants for weight control.

Substances have also been used for religious ceremonies to produce psychological changes important for the ceremonies. For example, the peyote cactus has a substance that, when chewed, causes people to feel visual hallucinations, in the structure of brightly colored lights, or vibrant, kaleidoscopic visions of geometric forms, animals, and people. The Aztecs and other native groups in Mexico and the Kiowa, Comanche, and other native groups in the United States and Canada have used peyote as part of religious rituals for hundreds of years.

Substances are of many uses. In order to help humans in their day to day activities is the primarily use of a substance. People started abusing these substances when they start to discover that there are more effects a substance can offer. It’s a surprise how the negative consequences that come with the abuse is taken lightly by these people. In the long run, their bodies start to deteriorate because of abusing addictive drugs. As always, there is drug rehab to offer help and services.

Drug rehab helps people who have drug addiction by undergoing them on a treatment. There are different methods that a drug addicted individual would undergo once he or she undergoes drug rehab. Prescribed drugs being used for treatment in order to treat drug addiction is how biological method works. This drug counters the effect of the addicted drug. For example, the drug being addicted to is heroin, the prescription of the synthetic drug called methadone can help in the slow use of heroin. The instant discontinued use of heroin gives off intense negative withdrawal symptoms which is then reduced by methadone. The prescription on the drug dependent some drugs that will help their addiction is how the medical aspect of drug rehab works. Another kind of treatment would be the use of psychotherapeutic ways to help drug addicted individuals recover. Psychotherapeutic ways include the use of psychodynamic, humanistic, behavioral and cognitive treatments. Behavioral treatment uses different behavioral techniques to help an individual stay away from the use of drugs. Acquiring new and positive behaviors plus putting out unwanted ones is how behavioral aspect changes an individual. Psychodynamic helps an individual in recognizing the maladaptive manners in which they try to cope up and in the source of their unconscious conflicts. The discovering of one’s potentials and one’s place in the world through the manner of exploring the self is how humanistic therapy can help an individual. This kind of therapy is often referred to as person- centered therapy . And lastly, the focus on people’s maladaptive interpretations of events or ways of thinking and tries to replace them with more adaptive ways of thinking is how cognitive therapy works. It also helps in getting new and more effective problem- solving techniques in dealing with the concrete problems life gives.

Substances have many effects which is often abused by men. When the time comes that the effects cannot be controlled anymore, drug rehab can be of help.
